Yuck // “The Wall”

#musicmonday

Yuck will play the Echo this Wednesday, April 13th, and the Satellite/Spaceland this Thursday, April 14th. Buncha Brits in Silverlake! Gonna be a hoot and a holler. They’re endearing and they sort of remind me of Sonic Youth. Good stuff.

Dum Dum Girls // “There is A Light That Never Goes Out” (The Smiths cover)

OKAY, I’m breaking a rule, but the He Gets Me High EP comes out March 1st, next Tuesday, so this post shall celebrate that.

This is one of my favorite songs by The Smiths. Dee Dee done good.

I guess this shall also be filed under Punk Fridays. Take it.

The pleasure, the privilege is mine,

M

@dumdumgirls & @killcrocodiles // “Merry Christmas, Baby (Please Don’t Die)”

I posted this song on our Twitter a few days ago, yeah yeah yeah, it’s STILL great. I liked playing it all year and having old guys walk into my office all, “WTF, Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Die?! WHAT are you listening to?” Haha, old guys.

Dum Dum Girls return to LA tomorrow night with a show at the Echoplex! WITH Abe Vigoda, Protect Me, Glass Actor and Franki Chan to support. It’s Check Yo Ponytail time again, and Demonbabies is doing the video screen projections and and and…it’s going to be a damn good show, I think. I’m stoked! Black lace punky dancey DJ-y psychedelic animations holiday shit! Yes!! See you there, LA!

Happy Exmas,

Red Bull Culture Clash 2010

Dim Mak vs. Smog vs. Stones Throw vs. Dub Lab

Uhh what? What? This party is pretty much what LA is about. Four heavyweight party promoters/DJ sets/music collectives are battling each other this Thursday, Dec. 2, at a nice big-ass party in Downtown LA. Four of our FAVORITE collectives, at that. LA ALL DAY, NBD.

Sound good? We think so too.

Blonde Redhead // “In Particular”

This band is a dream. I caught them last night at the Henry Fonda for their Penny Sparkle tour. I SHOULD post a newer song, but I really love this one. So good.

The Drums // “Let’s Go Surfing”

Caught The Drums & Surfer Blood at the Henry Fonda Music Box this week. By the by - I’m starting to hate that LA venue. A lot. Security is awfully strict, everything is expensive, and they have crappy liquor at the bar. #Snob

ANYHOO, The Drums stole the show. They were great showmen, they were so happy to play in LA, and their live set was really fun - just as fun as the record they put out this year. Super cute band. And yes, they want me to leave the black clothes behind for minute, and head to the beach and dance.

Check it!

…really though, I’ve played this song at my work place and people keep asking about it. Good sign, kids. Good sign.
